Very pleased to see a section about self publishing. I needed a little help to fine tune my novel and it was self publishing that I really wanted to find out about. Some of the course I found a little basic, but I understand that it has to cater for new writers as well as those with some experience. Having not written or published a novel I am now quite excited that I have finished and am in the process of publishing.

I don’t think any writer knows how to write a sex scene without help. It has to be pitched just right based on the potential audience for the book, and it was the biggest thing I was struggling with. Thankfully the course helped me sort out how to say what I wanted to so that the scene does not look out of place. Overall I was very happy with this course and it’s proved to be a big help to me in completing my novel.

I won’t be writing the next 50 Shades of Grey but I would like to succeed in getting something published if I can. I used this course to fine tune my novel and make amendments as I went through. It’s all finished so I’m not concentrating on the last section and preparing for submission. This is where most of us budding writers fail, I think. It’s one of the most important parts as your novel could be missed if it’s not submitted right. The information was just what I needed too.

‘Write as you learn’ is spot on. I had a short story I wanted to adapt to a novel, and did so using the advice and tips given throughout this course. I paid close attention to the dos and don’ts of the romance genre. I’ve read romance novels for many years and have come across some very odd situations that just didn’t feel right.

Building sexual conflict is not an easy thing to do, particularly when it’s over the course of a novel. I had to make some alterations to my overall plot, but I’m very glad that I did.

The whole module about refinement was the one I spent most time on. Not surprising, given that this involved lots of rereading, rewriting and reformatting. Thanks to this my novel is a lot better written and prepared to be sent off to potential publishers.

I really enjoy the exercises and quizzes. The quizzes I know if I’m right or wrong but the exercises I have no way of finding out if what I’ve done is any good or not. I do ask friends for an opinion, but I would much prefer to be able to ask someone in the industry or someone independent. Otherwise and nice course which did help me to get my novel finished once and for all.

Absolutely the best thing about this course was the ‘Definitive 12 Week Calendar to Your First Novel’. This is something I can use for other work and it’s a fantastic way of planning your workload. It really does work too if you follow it.

As I’ve discovered, creating believable characters in a believable setting is different for different genres. I have previously written a detective novel and this is my first attempt at a romance. I had to rethink how I write to make sure I had characters you could relate to and who you wanted to see have a happy ending. Great help.

I was attracted to this course because I can work at home and go at my own pace. I work odd hours and long shifts so a regular course would be no good for me. I also like that I can repeat a section as often as I want to until I have the information safely stored away. Real value for money course that covers everything I want to know.

Everything I’d expect from a course. Starting with a section about what it takes to write a novel through to how to market it. If I had one criticism it would be that a little more info about marketing an erotic novel would be good. Not all publishers welcome this type of work.

There are lots of things in this course which can be used for any kind of novel, which is a bonus. The 12 week plan was particularly useful, and can be adapted to any kind of writing. I did find it helped me enormously to have things planned out and I made sure I stuck to what I was supposed to do each day.

My wife is a huge fan of romance fiction. Having once joked that anyone could write a romance novel, I was challenged to put my money where my mouth is, which I when I realised that it’s not that simple. I had no idea where to start or what to write about. All of this course was extremely useful with this, not least the section about the prerequisites of story writing. I now have a much better understanding of what’s involved and I’m bouncing ideas off my wife to see what she thinks. My novel is a long way from finished but it’s certainly giving both of us the opportunity to explore our creative sides and we hope it will end up with something worth reading.

My romance novel is now finished and ready to be sent off. I’ve never been very good at negotiations, particularly if it’s something new to me. I read and re-read the section about how to negotiate with a publisher. Without this I’m not sure I’d have had the courage and I would most certainly have gone about the submission in the wrong way.

The case studies are a really big help. Always an inspiration to see how others have succeeded, or even failed. I have used a lot of what I learned in these case studies to develop my romance and even I can see that the whole novel is developing in the way I would like and with a plotline that is totally believable.

I’m very keen to get in to the Mills and Boon market so I signed for this course as soon as I saw it. Making sure a romantic plot flows rightis hard. It’s so easy to rush the development of a romance which spoils the tension. I’d like to think I picked up a lot from this course. I’m sending my first manuscript off with fingers crossed.

I usually write thrillers so romance doesn’t come easily to me. I want to develop a romance between my main character and a murder victim so I needed help with how to go about it. Lots of help available here about how to work my romance in to my plot.

I have a good romance story which I’m trying to develop into a novel. Romance I can write about but sexual tension and conflict is something else. I gained a lot from the course about that and it helped to develop my characters more at the same time. Pleased that I did this course.

Section 4 is not only useful to this course, but to all novel writing in general. Organisation is key and never more so when planning a plot, narrative, characters and everything else you need to write and, hopefully, publish a novel. The 12 week calendar really did help me to keep on track with what I was doing and as most writers know, that’s the hardest thing to do.

I have attempted a novel before, but never a romance. I got a lot of help from this course to help me develop a story, for which I only had half an idea. Practical experience and help is always good and the case studies, particularly the ones for blueprints for success, were full of information I can use to help me develop both myself as a writer and my novel.
